In any training plan, it's important to make time to review lessons covered previously. This week we're going to revisit test ride prep to ensure it's top of mind as we round into our busiest time of year.
First, take a minute to review the TrekU video on Test Ride prep, linked below. Then, each day this week, have one staff member pick a bike from the list below to prep for a test ride. Start with the bike in the lineup, and move to your shop's designated test ride prep area. With a second staff member posing as the customer, work on walking through tire inflation, shifting, and outfitting the bike (and rider) with lights and a helmet. Remember, this is a sort of "performance", finding your own voice and process will make it feel natural and smooth for you AND your customer.
Once the bike and rider (your coworker) are ready for the test ride, take a few minutes to debrief what went well, and areas for improvement. Think not only about what YOU can do better, but also about how you might better organize your test ride area for a successful test ride prep.
As time allows, repeat this process, swapping roles and bikes as you do. Repetition will make the process feel second nature and more comfortable once a real customer gets involved. And, as always, use any "live" interactions as opportunities to debrief, with a focus on the test ride prep portion of the process!
TrekU Test Ride VideoThis week is also a great time to revisit your test ride core competencies worksheet, and brush up on any areas you don't feel 100% comfortable with. Work with your service team to make sure you're ready to perform test ride preps flawlessly once the sun starts to shine! Didn't get a core competencies worksheet? Find it a the link below!
